Day 1.
People filed out throughout the day yesterday. Colleagues sharing their home-work set-ups on the company social platforms, this coupled with pet photos created an atmosphere of calm in the face of potential catastrophe.
As news hit our clients, communications had to be solid as we worked with all our partners to ensure our self-sustainability. How long would it last, how long do we not know, how long before we get any information, questions whose answers only brought more questions.
Information regarding the planet flooded our basecamp, a sub-par instant messaging platform company wide, but its free, so how can you complain. A company in its infantility, a smart move by upper management, it got the job done.
Flights cancelled, schools shut down, airlines ceasing operations, governments shutting down borders (what’s up with that). The United States of America declared the event a national emergency, immediately after receiving the news, my uncle calls me from Queens, New York.
He asks me what my dad’s phone number is, he always gets confused because we have similar phone numbers. I told him. The reason for the phone call intentioned with my father transpired with me. “How are you guys dealing with Co-V-19,” I always think, imagine It was called Co-V-24 or Co-V-8.
I told him the situation here. I asked him why do you think America declared it a national emergency. He said that when you declare a national emergency, 50 billion dollars in funds get released to tackle the situation. My conspirical mind started to think, the flu kills 20K people every year, more so than this virus has done so far, why shed so much light on Co-V-19? Destabilize China and Iran, instill a new level of fear, redesign society? it’s always about the money. The effects are without a doubt, tangible and very real, but the way it is being exploited resolves several questions.
I had to get back to thanking the RP for sending me their VISA. My e-mails running low, my follow-ups, 0. I had to find an hour’s worth of overtime, I could help out a colleague, but my mind couldn’t wrap around a new process right now. I’ll try again on Monday.
